Synapse Sitters’ Founder Chosen for Honor

Synapse Sitters’ Marie Maher is finalist for Champion of the Year

Indianapolis-based Synapse Sitters’ Founder Marie Maher has been selected as a 2018 Best Buddies Indiana Champion.  She is also a finalist for Indiana Champion of the Year.

Maher is currently raising funds online to support Best Buddies and raising awareness about the organization’s mission. Best Buddies is the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Maher is the parent of a young son with autism. She started Synapse Sitters to connect specialized sitters with families that have children on the Autism spectrum and those who have Down syndrome, ADHD, Asperger Syndrome, Sensory Processing Disorder, Cerebral Palsy or other behavioral and emotional needs.

What is Synapse Sitters?

Synapse Sitters is an online networking community and not a placement agency.  It does not endorse or place sitters with families.  Instead, it provides an innovative and secure online network for families with special needs and specialized sitters to connect.

“I am honored to be selected as a Best Buddies Indiana Champion and welcome the chance to raise awareness about this incredible organization,” said Maher.  “Best Buddies helps children like my son and those my company, Synapse Sitters, serves to make real, lasting connections within the community and stops the segregation and isolation so many experience.”

The Best Buddies Indiana Champion of the Year will be announced at a Gala on November 10 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom. Tickets are available online.
