New Tech Company Launches With Experienced Leadership

Shiftlab names Mitch Black as CEO and hits initial seed round funding goals

Shiftlab, a new performance-based workforce optimization SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) company, announces a new chief executive officer (CEO). The Carmel, Indiana-based company has named technology executive veteran Mitch Black to lead the firm.

Shiftlab is focused on performance-based workforce optimization, utilizing a machine-learning product to help retailers execute their labor strategies as efficiently as possible while maximizing the potential of each employee’s sales and operational strengths.

Black was an initial angel investor and served as an Advisor alongside EDGE Mentoring CEO and former Salesforce Executive Vice President of Administration Todd Richardson, prior to his appointment. Like Shiftlab Co-founders Devin Shrake and Erik Schlesselman,  Mitch has extensive wireless industry experience, the company’s initial market focus. However, the Company plans to extend into many other verticals.  Prior to joining Shiftlab, Black served as COO of Viral Launch, which was recognized as TechPoint’s 2019 Scale-up Company of the Year.

Black also served for five years as president of MOBI, a cloud-based mobility software company in Indianapolis. Under his leadership, MOBI evolved from start-up to a globally-recognized leader and was chosen in  2017 as TechPoint’s Tech Company of the Year. Black spent 25 years in other executive positions with Author Solutions, BrightPoint (now Ingram Micro), PCS Wireless and Verizon Wireless.

“Shiftlab is the perfect company for me,” said Black.  “It leverages my background building SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) companies and brings me back to my roots in the wireless industry. Shiftlab ties my past into my current experience. I’m looking forward to combining all my knowledge and skills into really building something special at Shiftlab.”

“Mitch has extensive experience in the tech space and retail industry, ” said Shiftlab Co-Founder Devin Shrake. “It’s exciting to see his passion and experience around the challenges that we’re solving for. Out of the gate, Wireless Retail is our primary target market. But, we’re consistently engaged in discussions with other verticals to ensure product market fit.  What we’ve confirmed is that Shiftlab’s product strategy and application transcends into many of those other verticals – specifically those that are focused on maximizing employee performance, service, operations and guest experience.  Mitch’s experience will help us strategically engage and quickly bring value into these segments.”

The company is seeing success right out of the gate. Shiftlab recently secured  a key partnership with iQmetrix, the leading retail management solutions provider in Wireless Retail.  The partnership between Shiftlab and iQmetrix is expected to fuel growth throughout 2020 with immediate exposure to more than 21,000 retail locations.
