Survey: Majority of Hoosiers Oppose Repealing the Affordable Care Act

A new Public Policy Polling survey shows that a majority of registered voters in Indiana oppose repealing the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Instead, they want to keep what works in the ACA and fix what doesn’t by a margin of 34 percent.

The poll shows that 61 percent of Hoosier voters favor tweaking the ACA. That compares to only 27 percent who want to scrap the whole act and start over with a new health care law.

“Hoosier voters clearly oppose throwing out the baby with the bathwater,” said Protect Our Care Indiana Spokeswoman Kate Shepherd.

Survey Shows Election Could be Impacted

Forty-nine percent of the voters polled said they voted for President Donald Trump. Yet, that same number says they’ll hold Republicans in Washington responsible for health care premium increase announcements expected to come this summer and fall. Only 20 percent of those polled say they would not hold Republicans responsible.

A pool of Indiana voters took the survey May 9-10, and the survey’s margin of error is +/- 4.3%.

Protect Our Care Indiana is a localized member of the national Protect Our Care coalition of health care advocates, providers, consumers, and workers, joining together to prevent the repeal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), prevent disastrous changes to Medicaid, and protect and expand access to quality affordable health care.
